There are a lot of motion detection activated camera traps available to purchase at the moment.

But this is one of the few wildlife cameras on the market designed specifically to capture photographs of feeding birds.

It’s totally inconspicuous when you set it up in the garden and looks just like a regular bird feeder.

Bird photography is hard and usually requires expensive specialized equipment.  But the Bresser Bird Feeder Camera is an affordable low barrier to entry for anyone to get into bird watch cameras.

Key Features

The Bresser Bird Feeder Camera is housed in an attractive and durable plastic shell.  The shell serves as the bird feeder element of the camera and seeks to protect the bird camera module itself from the elements.

The housing is brightly colored and cheerful in appearance.  Which is important when you have to look at it every day in your garden.

We found many trail cams to have a rugged hunting aesthetic that was at odds with domestic use and it was a nice change of pace to find a camera aimed squarely at bird watching enthusiasts.

This is one of the better-designed bird feeders we’ve seen, even when you exclude the feeder camera component. Bird watching around the garden feeder has long been an easy way to attract birds.  And we don’t think you’ll have any problems here. Our review model was always swamped with birds during our test period.

The 1.5 megapixel camera module itself is also weatherproofed to ensure that your bird photography mission is a success and your photos make it out safely.

The camera sits directly in line with the feeding tray of the bird feeder where the birds land. This creates an interesting resemblance to a bird photo booth.

Birds can be difficult to photograph with how fast they move.  The camera module takes advantage of motion detection technology to snap the perfect bird photo when one descends upon the feeder.  The bird camera module reacts quickly to birds landing on the feeder with a super-fast trigger speed of just one second.

Storage & Battery

Photos are stored on a Micro SD memory card, which you will need to purchase separately. There is a wired USB connection option that allows you to connect the bird cam to your Mac or PC in order to view the photos.

We were delighted to see that the Bresser Bird Feeder Camera uses a rechargeable lithium-ion battery via a built-in Micro USB charging port.  Eliminating the need for an external power source or expensive non-reusable batteries.

During our test run, this little bird photo booth had many visiting birds and after one week the battery was still holding a charge.

The bird cam is aimed solely at bird photography enthusiasts and the video enthusiasts among us were a little disappointed to find that there was no HD video option available. We’re sure the decision to omit features such as video recording and night vision were made with power conservation in mind. Limiting the camera to photos only lets the battery run for much longer.

BRESSER Bird Feeder with Camera

Birds aren’t the easiest of creatures to photograph. In fact, birds are one of the most difficult kinds of animals to get photos of.

Having a convenient bird photo booth set up directly on your property is almost like finding one of the cheat codes to life.

The Bresser Bird Feeder Camera cleverly uses advanced motion detection technology to capture photos when birds land on the feeder. We found that the camera was excellent at capturing shots of all but the quickest birds.

Not all bird feeder cameras are made equal, but the Bresser stands up against the competition. This affordable little bird camera performed brilliantly through all of our tests.

Picture Quality

This little bird feeder cam packs in a 1.5 megapixel imaging sensor. This may not sound like a lot by modern standards, but megapixels are not the only test of quality in a camera.

A 10 year old professional digital SLR camera with an 8 megapixel sensor will outperform a modern 40 megapixel cell phone camera in almost every imaginable way. Sensor quality is the most important thing when it comes to getting a good bird photo with your camera.

Provided there is adequate lighting images come out very well, the motion detection feature ensures that you don’t miss any birds that stop by to visit your feeder.

Helpful Tip on Picture Quality

We did notice that quality can fall off when the lighting conditions are poor.  But this is something that happens with many bird feeder cameras. Try and keep it in an open space with a good amount of natural light to offset this.

The Bresser Bird Feeder Camera isn’t a professional Digital SLR camera.  But it does take a good picture when you consider how little money it costs. No, we won’t be shooting bird photo of the week for a glossy magazine.  But this little bird feeder cam is perfectly adequate for most bird watching enthusiasts.

You can easily print 6×4″ photos from the 1.5 megapixel images it produces. Bird feeder cameras won’t replace a traditional camera setup.  But they do operate as a unique object in the photography landscape: the bird photo booth.

As there is no video mode in this camera we won’t be able to capture any footage of the birds that visit. We do wonder if the addition of video might have been too much for this little camera to deal with. We’d definitely like Bresser to include the option of video recording in a subsequent model, even if it means paying a little more for the product.

Build Quality

When purchasing a bird cam for outdoor use durability becomes a concern. Bird feeder cameras need to be strong enough to withstand the elements and any feathery visitors that the bird feeders bring with them.

The plastic shell that houses the bird camera module and serves as a housing for the feeder itself.  It is made of a durable plastic that we believe will be operating as a bird photo booth for years to come.

Assembling the bird camera is easy and stress-free, this is a high-quality product in just about every respect.

The Bresser Bird Feeder Camera can be hung or mounted, it’s the little touches like this that really complete the package.

We were really surprised to see such a nicely designed bird feeder cam on the market. Traditional trail cameras have a habit of taking on a ruggedized appearance that looks fine out in the woods but doesn’t really look so attractive in a home setting.

Bird feeders are supposed to look nice.  Bird cameras, when combined with the feeder component, need to look nice too.

We love the brightly colored and friendly appearance of this little bird feeder with camera.  It doesn’t look at all out of place overlooking our garden.

Birds are a truly compelling, but also difficult subject to capture. Bird photography is a real skill requiring a great deal of experience, knowledge, and camera equipment.

The Bresser Bird Feeder Camera bypasses the need for all of this and places a convenient bird photo booth right in your back garden. No, you’re not going to get top tier professional results out of it.  But for the money you pay it’s a fun little gadget to have.

This little bird watch camera is the perfect humanproof5-20nt for those regular boring bird feeders we all have in the yard. Having your own little bird photo booth is sure to delight your friends and family.

We love the fact that we can use a readily available Micro SD card to capture the photos.  And the ease of use with which the bird cam allows you to load those photos onto your Mac or PC computer.

The lack of an HD video mode was disappointing as we would have liked to capture some video footage on our bird feeder.  But at the price point, we’re not going to lose sleep over it. We’d also like to see a night vision mode included in the next generation model. Perhaps even night vision video if Bresser can stretch to it?

If you’re looking to get into bird photography on a budget and you’d like something you can set and forget then we definitely recommend picking up the Bresser Bird Feeder Camera.

This attractive little bird photo booth will take the work out of bird watching for you and provide you with high-quality photos to enjoy for years to come.
